Get a jumpstart on your energy education at Stanford. Create your Stanford network of students, faculty, and staff. Socialize with the students who formed the Stanford Energy Club. Meet energy faculty Rock Stars from Stanford's Seven Schools: Business, Earth Sciences, Education, Engineering, Humanities & Sciences, Law, and Medicine. Visit local energy companies in Silicon Valley, SLAC's state-of-the-art SSRL and LCLS light source facilities, and Stanford's Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve.
The week-long course will allow incoming and current graduate and professional school students to meet others who have an interest in energy, with the intent of building an interdisciplinary community across campus. Priority will be given to incoming graduate and professional school students and students early in their Stanford graduate studies.
Through talks, discussions, field trips, and social activities, students will explore the range of current and future energy resources, issues in energy conversion and storage technologies, the potential for improved energy efficiency and behavior, energy markets, energy finance and policy, the geopolitics of energy and national security, environmental justice, and greenhouse gas reduction. Additionally, students will learn how Stanford builds sustainability practices and innovation into every aspect of campus life, from operations and buildings to student life, teaching, and research.
Lunches and dinners will be a time for enrichment and building long-lasting cross-campus connections among the students, faculty, and staff. Mealtimes will include special speakers and activities. Dinners will rotate among different campus locations to orient students to places at Stanford with strong energy curriculum and research. It is our hope that by the time students begin fall term they will already know the breadth and depth of Stanford's energy programs, and may immediately begin to engage with other energy students, faculty, staff, and communities.
Additional information, including a student testimonial video and frequently asked questions, will be posted at: energyatstanfordandslac.stanford.edu
